NextStep — Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 10, 2026

NextStep is developed by MubarakLab. This policy covers the NextStep app and these app information pages. NextStep has no custom account or production app server. MubarakLab does not automatically receive your routine or history content through a NextStep server.

Information stored on your devices

The app stores the content you enter, including routine and step names, notes, planned durations, reminders and finish-by times. It also stores editor drafts, session actions and outcomes, elapsed and paused time, history, and your app preferences. Your text may contain personal or sensitive information if you choose to enter it.

Random installation and record identifiers, update versions, pending transfers and deletion records help the app preserve sessions and reconcile paired-device changes. These are not advertising identifiers. Duration suggestions are calculated locally from eligible history; the app does not send your routines to an AI service.

iPhone and Apple Watch sync

When NextStep is installed on paired devices, Apple's WatchConnectivity framework exchanges saved routines, real session snapshots, history and synchronization metadata between them. Transfer may be delayed while a device is disconnected. Independently started sessions remain separate, with one device controlling each session.

NextStep does not provide an app-managed cloud account or iCloud routine-sync service. Device backups and other system services may handle app data according to your Apple settings and Apple's privacy policy.

Notifications, widgets and system features

Optional local notifications use routine reminders and current-session timing. Widgets and Live Activities use limited status snapshots on the device. Names are private by default on these surfaces; turning off Keep step names private allows routine or step names to appear. Check your lock-screen and notification-preview settings before revealing personal text.

If you use Siri or Shortcuts to open a saved routine, Apple processes that interaction under its own settings and policies. Routine names can appear in system routine-selection or Shortcuts interfaces even when notification names are private. The app does not request access to HealthKit, Calendar, location or the microphone. System text input and Siri are provided by the operating system.

Files you choose to export or import

A routine share contains the selected routine. A full data export contains routines and real session history, including notes and recorded times. These are readable .nextstep JSON files. Purchases are not included. You decide where to save or send an export using the system share sheet; the chosen service or recipient then controls its copy.

Import previews let you review selected content before saving. Replacement creates a private recovery copy of the routines and history it replaces. Keep exports somewhere you trust and avoid sharing personal notes unintentionally.

Purchases

Apple processes payments and restoration through StoreKit and your Apple Account. NextStep reads verified purchase and subscription information, such as product identifiers, validity, expiration and revocation, to determine Pro access. Minimal purchase metadata, including product or transaction identifiers and verification times, may be stored locally. NextStep does not receive your payment-card details or Apple Account password. Apple handles its transaction records under its own privacy policy.

Analytics and advertising

NextStep has no advertising, tracking SDK, third-party analytics SDK or external AI service. We do not sell routine or history content. Apple's App Store, device diagnostics and optional analytics sharing are governed by your Apple settings and Apple's policies.

Retention, deletion and your choices

Routines and history remain on your devices until you delete them. Archiving a routine keeps its history. A Pro subscription ending does not delete your routines or older history; older records remain exportable even when their full in-app view requires Pro.

Settings → Your data → Delete all local data removes local routines, drafts and history and attempts to remove app-owned export and recovery files. App preferences, purchase information held by Apple, and synchronization identifiers or deletion records may remain. End a locally running routine before deleting local data.

An offline paired device keeps its copy until it receives the deletion; independently active work on the other device is preserved. Copies you saved outside the app, shared with others, or kept in device backups must be managed separately. Deleting data or removing the app does not cancel an Apple subscription.

We cannot retrieve or erase a routine from a NextStep server because there is no such server-side copy. Use the app's export and deletion controls on your devices, or contact us for help.

Support messages and this website

If you email support, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send through our email provider. We use that information to respond to your request. Please avoid sending passwords, payment information or full personal backups. You can contact us about access to or deletion of support correspondence; records may need to be retained where required by law.

These pages use GitHub Pages hosting. We add no analytics scripts, advertising, cookies or forms to the NextStep pages. GitHub may process technical request information, including IP addresses, to operate and secure its hosting under the GitHub privacy statement.
