Study Desk — Guide & Support

Last updated: September 22, 2026

Study Desk is in development. These instructions describe its current local workflow; this page does not announce an available App Store release.

Start with a source

  1. On Today, choose Create a course, or choose Try the sample course in a new library. The original Cedar Archive sample contains text and basic/cloze cards with fresh schedules.
  2. Open the course and choose Add material. Import a PDF, a selected photo or a text file, paste text, or choose Scan pages. Camera access is optional; Files, Photos and pasted text remain available.
  3. Read the source, select the passage or image region you want to learn, and create a card. Use a basic question and answer, a cloze with selected missing words, or image occlusion with covered regions. Check the source link and approve the card before studying it.

Recognition can make mistakes, especially with diagrams, handwriting, low contrast and rotated pages. Review recognized text and its source before using it. Proofreading creates corrected text separately from the preserved original. A password-protected PDF may require its password for the current session; Study Desk does not save that password in a backup.

Recall, reveal and return to the evidence

Choose Start review → Start session, think of your answer, then choose Reveal answer. Compare with the reference answer, use View source to inspect the linked evidence, and select Again, Hard, Good or Easy yourself. Scratch answers are temporary and are not automatically marked.

Choosing Need to check the source? before revealing changes that attempt to Practice before showing the source. Practice does not change scheduled dates. One graded review attempt is shared across the app's windows and supported layouts. The ordinary iPhone layout includes the same core study functions.

StudySchedule v1 uses a fixed local scheduling policy. It does not predict exam scores or guarantee retention. Study days begin at 04:00 in the library's selected time zone. Exam dates and study plans help organize workload without shortening intervals.

Save a revision sheet, card pack or backup

In a course, open Share, revision sheets and backup. Review the exact content and any scope notices before exporting.

Use Save to Files or share and check the resulting file in its destination. Opening or canceling the share sheet does not mean a file was saved. There is no developer server copy of your library.

Import and restore

Open Settings → Import a backup or card pack, choose a file, and inspect the validated preview before confirming. A private backup restores new copies with their retained history and source references. Courses beyond the active Free allowance are preserved in Archive. Civil due dates are retained when the library time zone differs. A public card pack imports draft cards with fresh identities and schedules; review and approve them before scheduled study.

Library backups do not restore purchases. Keep backups somewhere you control before deleting the app. Archive organizes courses but does not delete their originals. Storage and Trash contains recovery and deletion controls; do not uninstall as a first response to a storage or database error.

Reminders and permissions

Enable a local study reminder in Settings when you want one. Notification permission is requested there, and iOS controls delivery. The default notification is generic and does not expose answers. Declining notifications does not restrict study. Camera denial still leaves import and manual creation available; camera permission can be changed in iPhone Settings.

Free, Pro and billing

Free supports one active course and 200 active independently scheduled card variants. Basic, cloze and image-occlusion cards, source return, scheduled review, Practice, readable exports, backups and recovery remain available. Existing work stays reviewable, editable and exportable after Pro ends; new growth and newly saved Pro settings may be limited.

Where configured, optional annual Pro and one-time Pro unlock the same additional active-course/card capacity and saved filters, plans and revision layouts. Apple supplies the actual localized prices. Annual Pro renews automatically unless canceled; one-time Pro is a non-consumable purchase. Buying one-time Pro does not cancel an existing annual subscription.

Open Settings → Purchases and restore for Restore Purchases and Manage subscription. Pending purchases need Apple's approval before access changes. Development offers are local tests, not completed real purchases. An unavailable store leaves Free study usable. Refund requests are handled through Apple's report-a-problem service.
